尊敬的各位家长、各位老师；

大家好！

1.    衷心的祝福 HEARTFELT CONGRATULATION

近日来，我校高中毕业生陆陆续续收到了大学的录取通知书：有进芝加哥大学的、有到卫斯理的、有进哥伦比亚的、有到华盛顿大学的、有进伯克利的、有到哈佛的……无论他们是远走美东、还是留守本州，都是他们自己的选择，都是他们努力的结晶。作为他们的师长，我们为他们兴高采烈；作为他们梦开始的地方，让我们在此向他们致以最衷心的祝福，恭贺他们美梦成真，如愿以偿。

Within last two weeks, more and more NWCS senior high students got their college admission notifications. Some of them will go to University of Chicago, Wellesley, Columbia; others go University of Washington, UC Berkeley, and Harvard……. Some will soon leave for the East Coast; others remain in the State of Washington. Either way, it is of their own choices due to their own hardworking. Please allow me on behalf of NWCS to express our heartfelt congratulations!

2．交流与倾听 INTERCHANGE OF IDEAS & LISTENING WITH GREAT ATTENTION  

上周六，因天气晴朗、风和日丽、气温宜人、来学校参加各项活动的家长和蹭课（无贬义，一时找不到更贴切、更合适的词，对不起）“搭乘顺风车”的校外成年朋友多于以往，加上NHS的体育比赛，导致部分学生迟到，也导致进入校区的交通滞缓，再现停车难的困境。谢谢几位热心的家长及时和我们交流，讨论解决的办法。我们的大前提是：我们必须首先保证我们的学生交通安全，我们的教学秩序不受影响；然后，尽量保证学生家长的免费课程，然后，再顾及其他。毕竟，我们的资源有限。希望选修成年人课程的教师和家长们能够配合和理解。交流思想是十分必要的，如何及时用得体、有效的方式交流尤为重要，这样大家的共识和意志才更清晰。对于我们ADMIN而言，交流更多的时候是倾听。我们乐于谦和地倾听。谢谢！

3.    教育与素养 EDUCATION AND DISPOSITION

也是因为校内交通滞缓的缘故，本人在早晨上课前特意HOLD THE BACK DOOR OPEN，意在让学生下车后尽量避开交通车辆，及早进入教室。无论年龄大小，年级高低，即便是在急匆匆地跑着，他们都不忘看着我的眼睛，对我用中文温文尔雅地说声：“谢谢！”关键是他们在说谢谢的时候给人的感觉是那样的真诚。让人心里既感到温暖，又觉得欣慰，欣慰的是他们言语里饱含真诚，眼神里透着自信。他们懂得什么时候该张扬，什么时候不该张扬；哪些是该张扬的（比如才华），哪些是不该张扬的（比如财富）。个个是不可复制的自我。若是他们将来到外国留学、外地求学，家长们怎么能不放心呢？所以，素养教育既与教育本身有关，又与社会大环境相联。

1. 藤胜毅牙科矫正医师优秀作文奖征稿 TENG SMILES ORTHODONTICS COMPOSITION CONTEST

一年一度的“藤胜毅牙科矫正医师优秀作文奖”的评选活动本周正式启动。本活动面对六至十二年级的学生。本着普及与提高并举，简约与高效兼顾的原则，本活动采取在要求各班级同学人人写作文的基础上，由教师初选并推荐的方式进行。希望六年级以上各班中文教师积极推荐本班学生的近期作文给评委会（欢迎家长参与推荐），每班可提供3-5篇近作，用邮件方式发送给meiru_sun@hotmail.com CC admin@nwchinese.org。为了便于评委们阅读和环保的要求，本年度将只接受电子版的学生作文（愿意手写的同学可以以此参加正在征稿的书法比赛）。截稿日期是5月5号。作文的题材和内容不限，长短要求500字以内。发奖仪式将与毕业典礼同日先后进行，届时我们将邀请藤医生为优胜者颁奖。

The Teng Smiles Orthodontics Awards is funded by Dr. Teng, who is a previous parent at NWCS. The total fund is $500.00 dollars for each academic year. It encourages students to write in Chinese with the linguistic knowledge and the basic writing skills they have learned here at NWCS. This award focuses on students from 6 - 12 grades, main campus and Seattle Branch. The contenders will be divided into two groups: 6th, 7th and 8th grades as the junior high group; 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade as the senior high group. Each group will have a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner. The awards will be given out in June together with the Graduation Ceremony. Questions, suggestions, or concerns, rules and regulations, please feel free to send communicate via email. Thank you!

2．关于第三届中华文化知识竞赛优胜者中国夏令营的通知 SUMMER CAMP IN CHINA FOR PRICE-WINNERS OF CHINESE CULTURE CONTEST

现将有关事项通知如下：

一、活动时间 7月26日（报到）至8月8日（离开），共13晚14天。

二、活动地点 云南省昆明市

三、参营对象 凡在本次知识竞赛中获得优秀成绩者均可报名。每10名参营学生可配1名领队带团，不满10人的，可配1名领队。有意担任带队的老师、家长，请到校长办公处。

四、活动内容

1．强化学习汉语和中国地理、历史、文化常识；

2．参观当地有代表性的历史文化名胜；

3．与当地青少年学生交流、联谊；

4．举办“中华文化知识竞赛半决赛”。

五、费用 营员和领队的往返交通费自理，营期内食宿、交通、学习、参观等费用由国务院侨办承担。需填nwcs-1055 表. www.csaus.org/culture

3．西北中文学校夏令营优秀教师简介 A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO NWCS SUMMER CAMP TEACHERS

Zheng Zhao (赵铮). She has been an excellent Chinese and Art teacher at NWCS since 2004. She also is the first place winner of ADDA (全美制图协会) in 2005. This is the seventh year she will be teaching in the summer program for Northwest Chinese School. This year, she will be the drawing teacher and the co-manager with Mrs. Jing Leng for the summer program. She will teach your kids to draw tons of beautiful pictures in the summer. Currently she teaches Chinese 5C and “Intermediate Drawing” classes at the Bellevue main campus.

Zhiming Cao (曹智敏). Teacher Cao has been an excellent Chinese teacher in NWCS since 2004. Currently she teaches Chinese 2E at Bellevue campus. Her teaching style is vivid and vigorous, the students really like her during class. Also, she was a lead teacher in Children’s World learning Center from 2004-2008. She is a patient, caring, and responsible teacher. This year is the seventh year she will be teaching the summer program at Northwest Chinese School. She will teach “Panda” class this year.

Yan Zou (邹燕). Teacher Zou joined NWCS in 2008. Before she came to Seattle, she taught Chinese and dance in Cary Chinese School in North Carolina. Also, she was a teacher assistant in Glenwood Elementary School in NC. Currently she is teaching Chinese 3A and “Children Dancing” class 2 in NWCS. She is a great teacher with passion and patience. This will be the fourth year that she teaches summer program in NWCS. She will teach Chinese in “Tiger” & “Lion” classes for the first four weeks in summer camp this year.

Gubin Wei (魏古斌). Teacher Wei is an experienced Chinese teacher who graduated at Southwest Normal University in China. She joined NWCS in 2008. She has wide interests including “Poetry Reciting”, “Calligraphy” and “Dancing” etc. She won first place in “NWCS Calligraphy & Drawing Contest”, and was “NWCS Chinese New Year Performance” MC in 2010 as well. Shi is a professional, patient and caring teacher. This is the second year she will be teaching at the summer program in NWCS. She will teach Chinese in “Tiger” & “Lion” classes for the last six weeks in summer camp this year.

Jinny Guan Heiskanen. Jinny is an experienced art instructor and fashion designer. She earned her bachelor degree in fine art in Beijing, and fashion design in The Art Institute of Seattle in 2004. She had been an art teacher at NWCS a few years ago; currently she is teaching art to private students and groups from the beginner to the advanced level in her studio. Art and life have been inseparable for her; teaching has become the pure and true passion in her life. This summer she will teach art class for the first four weeks.

Meiru (Kathy) Sun (孙梅茹), a Director of the Chinese Education Research Program, and a senior teacher at Northwest Chinese School. She has been teaching Chinese & math for over 18 years in the United States and Canada. Her students range from school aged children to business people. Mrs. Sun love students and really enjoys teaching. This is the first year she will be teaching math for “Tiger” & “Lion” classes.

Tianyuan Li (李天媛), is a skilled and experienced Taiji and Wushu master. As a member of the Shanxi Wushu Team from 1984-1993, Tianyuan held several tittles. She graduated from the Beijing Sports University, China’s most prestigious sports school, and taught Taiji and Wushu in Japan and USA until now. Currently she is teaching Material art class in NWCS, and this is the second year she will be teaching Material Art class in summer camp.

4. 下周六（04/14/2012）放春假，预祝大家周末假日愉快 SPRING BREAK IS NEXT WEEK. NO CLASS MAIN CAMPUS OR SEATTLE BRANCH.

1. 中华文化知识竞赛精彩纷呈，我校学子载誉而归 CHINESE LANGUAGE & TALENT SHOW IS SPLENDID. STUDENTS FROM NWCS ARE AMONG THE BEST!

上周日（03/25/2012）大西雅图地区中华文化知识竞赛在希思国际学校如期举行，竞争激烈，场面感人，秩序井然，学生们的临场发挥精彩动人。无论是在赛场、大厅、礼堂、领奖台上到处都是西北中文学校学生和家长的身影。发奖仪式的四个主持人，我校占了三位，他们分别是：孙颖（ASHLEY SUN，11A）、张传之（EDWARD ZHANG，刚毕业）、萧尚怡（CELINE SHAW,12C）。获奖方面：傅白薇老师指导的舞蹈班，以舞姿优美、动作娴熟、精神饱满等特点获得了集体并列一等奖；我校学童吴峻涛（KEVIN WU）先后四次上台领奖，成为获奖次数最多的男生；我校学生聂雨霏获得两个一等奖，成为获奖次数最多的女生。作为我校的代表和大赛的组织者之一，语文教研室主任孙梅茹老师为活动的圆满成功作出了杰出的贡献，特此通报表扬，并向所有参与该大赛的家长和老师们致谢！

2．我校夏令营招生工作已经准备就绪，现在开始报名 NWCS SUMMER CAMP (06/25-08/31) IS READY FOR REGISTRATION

伴随着春天的脚步，我校夏令营的招生工作业已就绪，即日起开始报名。报名方法详见我校网站：www.nwchinese.org。欢迎4-12 岁的小朋友入营。随着我校的蓬勃发展，夏令营已经成为我校的金字招牌之一，并已师资精良、质量保证、寓教于乐、管理严密、教学环境安静优雅、课外户外活动丰富多彩等闻名遐尔。您的孩子一定会在这里度过一个轻松愉快而又富有收获的暑期。我们将在未来的几周里逐一向大家介绍夏令营的特点课程，敬请关注。

（一）暑期儿童明星舞蹈班

1、儿童舞基本功训练: 中国舞基本动作的训练, 通过头、颈、肩、手、腿、脚等等进行规范化训练, 以增强身体的软度和灵活性。

2、中国舞蹈及舞蹈组合训练: 通过学习舞蹈, 掌握中国舞蹈的基本技巧，让学生们具有一定的舞台表演能力。

上课时间: 六月二十五至八月三十一, 每周一下午4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

上课地点: Unity of Bellevue Church, 16330 NE 4th street, Bellevue, WA 98008

任课老师: 傅白薇

热爱中国音乐舞蹈，曾从师于武汉音乐学院舞蹈柳学红老师学习中国舞蹈, 并跟随武汉歌舞剧院的老师专门学习东方歌舞团经典舞蹈，中国民族民间舞, 日本民间舞蹈等等。作为大学文工团舞蹈队主要舞蹈演员之一, 曾多次参加过武汉市的大型文艺汇演, 被评为武汉市优秀学生青年并随团赴西安，洛阳参加大学生联谊活动。来美后，从师于沈阳舞蹈学院的陈永革老师。现在在恒达舞蹈学院进修。

曾担任俄亥俄现代中文学校成人舞蹈和儿童舞蹈班的舞蹈教师。并和当地文艺爱好者创办了俄亥俄东方歌舞团，后改名为荷花舞蹈艺术团, 参加过多次文化艺术节，国际艺术节以及文艺汇演。教授的成人舞蹈代表作品有“小城情思”、“采茶舞”、“孔雀舞”、“撇扇舞”和东北秧歌舞蹈“大姑娘美”，并担任领舞。

现任教于西北中文学校儿童舞蹈高级表演班，是一位教有专长的优秀教师。她指导的舞蹈班给西雅图地区的文艺汇演活动带来过许多精彩的节目，孩子们的演出赢得了众多观众的好评。代表作品有: “茉莉花”、“老师的目光”、“贺新春”、“找朋友”、“戏雨”、“数星星”、 “心愿” .. 目前是西北中文学校管理团队的一员，分管学校音乐舞蹈工作。曾帮助组建了西北中文学校儿童舞蹈II 班和儿童戏剧班。多次担任西北中文学校春节晚会总导演和艺术指导。

舞蹈是一种以人体动作为主要表现手段的综合性表演艺术。儿童舞蹈具有天真，单纯，活泼的特点, 而儿童舞蹈训练，有助于增进儿童的形体端正, 陶冶美的情操。

（二）夏令营奥林匹克数学课程简介 SUMMER MATH OLYMPIC CLASS

Purpose: Sharpen problem solving skill, and help students get ready for math competitions

Time line: 6 half day (3hours/day) in July 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, and 19 from 9:15am to 12:15pm

Location: Unity of Bellevue Church, 16330 NE 4^th street Bellevue, WA 98008

Students: 4^th – 5^th grades with good foundation of basic math concepts at elementary school level

Topics and Format (the order might be changed )

Through this course, we focus on several big areas:

Day 1 – Ratio and Proportion

Day 2 – Counting and Number Series

Day 3 – Basic Geometry

Day 4 – Probability and others

Day 5 – Basic Algebra

Day 6 – Wrap up (contest simulation)

Every day we follow the teaching principle:

- Introduce the students what we are going to teach them, and warm up the class;

- Teach them step by step using the simplest language, and have the students hand on;

- Emphasize again what we have taught, and give them more challenges.

The detailed sequence:

- 1^st hour: Introduce basic concept, walk through key techniques of problem-solving in a particular area;

- 2^nd hour: Let the students hands on, teacher helps to diagnose the issues;

- 3^rd hour: Repeat the explanation in a different way (or an evolved approach), and give the students with more challenging problem in the same area.

3．华州年度“酷—数学”竞赛报名邀请 5^TH GRADE “MATH IS COOL”MASTERS (MAY 19^TH, 2012)

Moses Lake High School

Masters for 4th, 5th, and 6th grades

May 19, 2012 9:00am – 3:00pm (Subject to change as planning continues) Registration must be received by the Deadline: April 6, 2012 Cost for Team: $10 per school plus $40 per team of 4 Cost for Individual: $10 per individual (Purchase orders have a $10 fee) Please note: Other schools will be invited in your place if your registration is not received by the deadline date of April 6, 2012
