1、2013年还剩下二十来天，还有一周各学校就将陆续进入冬季假期。为了配合您们的假期安排，中文学校也将从下周起开始放假。本周六将是我们在2013年的最后一次课，我们下次的见面将在2014年的1月4日。在这里我们提前预祝您和您的家人拥有一个愉快的假期和祥和幸福的新年！

 

There are about twenty days left for the year of 2013 and the winter break will start in a week or two for most schools. To commensurate with your holiday arrangements, our school will also take a two week break starting from next week. So this Saturday will be our last class meet for the year of 2013 and our next meet will be on Jan.4^th, 2014. And we wish you and your family a happy winter break and a very happy New Year in advance!

 

2、我们相信大家一定已经为孩子们安排了许多丰富多彩的假期活动，但我们也建议大家可以趁此机会好好锻炼孩子们的中文口语对话和中文写作的能力，比如，家长们可以在安排回国探亲或是走亲访友的时候让自己的孩子多练习中文对话或是教会他们一些中文习惯用语，另外还可以让孩子们在假期开始用中文记日记或是写作文，记下他们假期中发生的有趣的故事或是读过的好书。

 

由《侨报》主办的“西北教育论坛”发表了我校7A班潘丰忻、7B班苏童、7C班杨澜和高级绘画班刘翰雯的作品（ http://sf.uschinapress.com/node/25393），请这几位同学本周六11：00-11：30之间来Admin办公桌领取稿酬奖励。我们期待在上面不久就会见到你们的作品。欢迎你们投稿，来稿请寄：admin@nwchinese.org。

 

We believe you probably have arranged all kind of activities for your children during this winter break. And we would like to add some more ideas to your list of the winter break activities because we think this would be a great opportunity for your kids to practice more with their Chinese speaking and writing skills: you can let your children converse in Chinese when your family is visiting friends or relatives during the holidays or you can teach them some Chinese idioms when the occasions come up. And you can ask your children keep a Chinese journal about their winter break activities or write about a book they read in the break. The “Northwest Education Forum” of 《侨报》is opened by our school to encourage our students, teachers and parents to write Chinese essays more. And you can find more works from our students in the new issue (see http://sf.uschinapress.com/node/25393). You are welcome to submit your own work through email to: admin@nwchinese.org.

 

3、上次我们学校向所有西北中文学校的师生家长提出征集校训后，得到了大家的积极响应。继杨琳老师提出了她所建议的校训-----“豁达自重，智勇求真”之后，又有其他学校成员提出了他们新的建议，比如“厚文修德，心臻华美”等。对大家的热情支持在此表示感谢，也再次欢迎大家积极参加讨论，帮助我们找到能反映我们学校办学理念和治校精神的校训。

1、希望大家度过了一个丰富而愉快的假期!和您一样, 我们也正精神抖擞地盼望着本周六在中文学校的再次见面！另外，我们还想与您分享一个学校刚刚得到的好消息：我校被国侨办评为海外“华文教育示范学校”(详情请见http://www.hwjyw.com/info/content/2013/11/26/29389.shtml)

在这里我们要感谢各位老师、历届董事会、广大家长义工和学校行政管理团队的不懈努力，为华文教育发展和促进中美文化交流做出的卓越成就！

 

We hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! And we are looking forward to seeing you again this coming Saturday at school.

Also there is a great news we want to share with you: our school has been selected as one of the oversea model schools of Chinese language and culture education by the Oversea Chinese Affairs Office of China. We want to thank all our teachers, parents, all the past and current board members, PTA volunteers and admin teams for their hard work, cooperation and great contributions to the Chinese-American culture exchange and language/culture education. 

 

2、感到高兴的同时，我们也更加感到了肩上责任的分量，真是任重而道远！最近大家讨论最多的就是有关华裔在美国的未来等话题。作为一所中文学校，我们有责任帮助培养更多更优秀的华裔青年。为了更好地完成这个任务，我们应该先给自己设立一个更加明确的愿景目标。学校决定面向所有西北中文学校的师生家长征集校训，希望这个校训能反映我们学校的办学理念和治校精神。欢迎大家参加讨论。目前我校6A班杨琳老师提出了她所建议的校训-----“豁达自重，智勇求真”。豁达是指着眼大处，不在小事上过于计较，保持积极健康的心态。自重是指为自己华裔的身份而自豪，同时对自己的行为有自觉的规范，建立华裔在美国的信誉。智勇是指既要有智慧，也要有勇气，完成自己面临的各种任务。求真是指遇到事情不人云亦云，有追求真理的信心和勇气。可以看出，这个校训是希望我们的下一代能改正一些我们华裔不好的习惯和态度，以及在美国给人的一些负面的印象，也希望我们的下一代能做一个全新的中西合璧的新新人类。五千年的过去，我们有太多的东西可以传承，只要求其精华，去其糟粕，华裔在美国的明天肯定是光明和美好的。我们一定会和其他族裔和谐共处，充分发挥自己的优势，成为社会的中坚。

 

Being proud of such honor, we also feel the weight of our responsibility in helping the society to educate more great youths. To set a great goal for us, we are asking all our teachers, parents and management team to join us in searching for our school's motto. 3、与上个话题密切相关的是我们想要再次强调的教室管理纪律以及我们和租赁方的合作关系的问题。我们知道虽然绝大多数师生家长已经尽可能地配合我们保持了教室的整洁干净，没有乱动教室内的设施，尤其是NHS老师的办公桌，但是还是有极少数人没有充分重视这个问题，以至于他们的行为影响到了我们和租赁方的合作关系。上周我们又收到了好几封NHS老师的抱怨信，他们这次反映的主要问题包括：有人拿走了某些属于老师的私人物品；有些学生在清洗水彩笔的时候有意或是无意地把水彩甩到了卫生间的墙上和天花板上；教室课桌上随意涂鸦；教室桌椅没有恢复到原来位置等。虽然我们理解大家都有自己的难处，但既然租赁方能信任我们，对我们敞开大门，我们就应该尽可能地做到让他们无可挑剔。我们再次呼吁学校ADMIN、老师和家长齐心协力管好每一个教室，防患于未然，可以采取多种办法，比如拍照前后对比，安排监督责任人等，防止NHS老师任何产生不满的源头，让他们看到我们华人的责任心和积极的精神风貌。

 

In the past weekend we still received complaints from NHS about dots or splotches of colored water all over the walls and ceiling in boy’s bathroom; not returning things in the classroom to their original condition. So we want to plead with all the teachers and parents again: please remind your students not to move anything in the classroom, especially the things on the teachers’ desk. Stay away from the desk if possible. No food and drinks in the classroom. If you have to move the tables (Chairs), please return them to their original places when the class is over. Whoever is doing art has to have adult supervision of the students especially during the time of clean up!

 

4、自从我们在第七周宣布要在《侨报》主办“西北教育论坛”并向广大家长和老师征集稿件后，得到了大家的热情响应。我校中文7B班朱晨老师的文章“我与西北有约”刊登在11月21日的侨报周刊http://sf.uschinapress.com/node/24686。今后还将有更多我校学生和老师的文章（作品）陆续发布，欢迎更多的老师和家长投稿。来稿请寄：admin@nwchinese.org

After we announced our opening a “Northwest Education Forum” in our local Chinese newspaper in our 7th weekly email, we have received great support from our teachers and parents. The November 21st issue of 《侨报》 included an essay written by our 7B class teacher Zhu Chen. Please find it at http://sf.uschinapress.com/node/24686. And there will be more works coming out in the coming weeks. You are welcome to submit your own work through email to: admin@nwchinese.org.

NWCS 9th Weekly Briefing 2013-2014 Fall Semester

1. 本周六我们主校和西雅图分校所有班级都照课表正常上课。下星期六（11/30）感恩节放假。

This Saturday, November 23^rd, 2013, all NWCS classes of main campus and Seattle Branch will follow regular schedules as defined in our new NWCS school calendar http://www.nwchinese.org/files/2013-2014_calendar.pdf. Please come to school on time. 

We won’t have the classes next Saturday due to Thanksgiving holiday.

2. 为了适应中文教育和学校的发展，我们西北中文学校正在寻找更合适的办学场所，希望除了能有办公室功能外，还可以办课后辅导班，欢迎家长和老师献计献策。

To help with our school’s growing needs, we are searching for a better location where we can not only have our own administration office but also launch our afterschool program. Our parents and teachers are welcome to provide any related information and suggestions for our school.

3. 自从我们面向广大师生家长征集有关西北中文学校校史的文字和图片资料后，得到了许多家长老师的热情支持，在此表示感谢并希望更多的老师家长能加入我们，为学校提供更多珍贵的校史资料。作为参考，在这里我们想和大家分享一份Julie Ellington提供的本地华文报纸在上世纪九十年代对刚成立的西北中文学校的报导（见附件）。再次感谢Julie的分享！

Since we announced our plan to compile our school’s history we have received great support from our former school leaders, parents and teachers. We want to express our appreciation to them all again here and we hope more of you can join us to provide more valuable historical sources of our school’s developing process. For your reference we want to share with you a piece of historical material about newly established NWCS in the 1990s (see attachment). And we want to express our thanks again to our board member, Julie Ellington for sharing this with us.

4. 本年度AMC 8数学竞赛将于本周六（十一月二十三日）举行

The AMC 8 test date is going to be on Nov.23^rd (this Saturday) from 11:00am to 11:50am on Newport high school campus, students who have registered the test will receive a confirmation email from math department as the test date approaches.
Due to the school campus situation on last Saturday (11/16), the AMC 8 special training session will be postponed to this Saturday（11/23）. (It will be after the AMC 8 test time.)

5. 黄佳棣老师曾是西北中文学校最早的一批教学经验极为丰富的中文老师，她在西雅图学区教授中文多年，深受学生喜爱。本周我们有幸请到她就 “1、如何选择好的教材？如何运用好的课件？2、如何提高教学效果，使孩子们喜欢中文、自觉地学习中文？3、在学习中文的过程中，家长和老师的配合”等话题举行座谈讨论，欢迎诸位中文老师和感兴趣的家长积极参加。

我们今天上午刚刚得到Bellevue学区转发的消息：由于本周六Newport High School有重要的州际橄榄球比赛，需要保证比赛用停车场地，所以我们无法正常使用学校的任何设施。经过反复协商未果，我们不得不取消周六（11/16）中文学校的一切教学和其他活动。我们非常抱歉计划改变给大家带来的种种不便，希望大家能理解和配合这次的调整，互相通知提醒。本周取消的教学计划都将顺延至下周（11/23），因此这学期的最后一天也由原来的一月二十五日延期到二月一日。随信附上调整后的新校历以供大家参考。

 

Unfortunately, our Northwest Chinese School have to cancel all school activities including all classes this weekend(11/16) in order to comply with Newport High School’s need of space for their State Football Playoffs on their campus. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by such change of plan and hope you can show your understanding and support again by spreading the words to other parents you know. As a result the last day of fall semester will be postponed to 02/01/2014 instead of 01/25/2014(revised calendar is attached).

1.本周六学校大部分班级将安排期中考试，希望家长们按时把孩子送到学校，以免影响考试安排。

 

Mid-term exams for most classes are taking place on this Saturday. Parents: please make sure to send your kids into their classrooms in time.

 

2.感谢我校师生家长积极参与上周的“西雅图教育大展”。需要提醒大家的是我们在前面几周谈过的乱停车问题在上周又再次出现，希望大家都重视这个问题，千万不要在roundabouts 或是loading/unloading zone 停车。每次在把你的孩子Drop off后请立即把车开走，这样才能保持交通的畅通。

 

We want to thank those who participated in “Seattle Education Expo” last week. Since the old problem of parking reappeared last week, we want to urge all of you again not to park your car at the roundabouts or the loading/unloading zone (the area closer to the school building).

1.时光飞逝，转眼之间我们又进入了期中复习考试阶段。很多班级会在11/02（第八周）安排期中考试，请各位家长配合老师，帮助督促孩子们搞好复习,总结和考试，以便更好地准备下一个阶段的学习。

It is Midterm review and exam time again. The mid-term test will be scheduled on 11/02 for most of classes, please help your children to get ready for the  test so they can be better prepared for the second half of our semester’s learning.

 

2.为了满足西北中文学校长期发展的需要, 学校计划筹建"西北中文学校基金会", 考虑招聘有奉献精神、有基金会管理经验及能力的人员, 专心地把这项工作做起来, 基金会将以筹集资金购买学校固定校舍为主要目标。 敬请有兴趣的家长和老师踊跃报名或提出宝贵建议, 最好在11/02前答复。Email: dong.ma@nwchinese.org.

3. 另外，这个学期学校为了今后健康稳步的持续发展，筹建了人文教育部，计划从今年十一月起，在本地比较有影响力的华文报纸（《侨报》）上刊登一个专栏“西北教育论坛”，栏目包括“学生作品”、“教师风采”和“家长育儿心得”等。旨在通过发表学生，家长和老师的作品，培养和激发学生对中文写作，书法绘画等与中国文化相关教学内容的兴趣，宣传我校的教学理念，展示我们的教学成果，增强西北人对学校的自豪感和归属感。学生作品需要通过老师推荐，同时也欢迎家长投稿，稿件一经录用均会酌情支付稿酬。来稿请寄：admin@nwchinese.org

In the coming November our school will start to open a “Northwest Education Forum” in our local Chinese newspaper （《侨报》）and it will include our students’ Chinese essay writings, calligraphy, painting works, teachers’ researches and parents ’parenting tips etc. Even though the students’ work need to be recommended by their teachers, you parents are welcome to submit your own work through email to: admin@nwchinese.org.

 

4.2013年第五届 “西雅图教育大展”将于本周六（10月26日）上午8:30至下午3点在Newport High School举行。加州、俄勒冈州和华盛顿州的14所名校的招生专员将为您现场解答申报大学的有关问题。华裔教育专家伍炜豪将设SAT模拟考场并讲解如何提高SAT成绩。著名大学助学金及税务规划专家Michael Chan将分析助学金申请时常犯的错误以帮助更多家庭得到大学助学金和税务优惠。韩裔四栖明星 Victor Kim将亲临现场作励志演讲。前100名到场者可获得礼品一份，所有活动参加者均可参加现场抽奖并有机会赢得《侨报》提供的奖品New iPad。希望我校学生家长踊跃参加。另外, 为了减少可以预见的停车压力，我们鼓励大家拼车,步行或是在附近停车场停车。

The 5th Annual Seattle Education Exposition will be held on this coming Saturday （October 26, 2013） from 8:30 am to 3 pm at Newport High School。The Expo brings together admissions officers from 14 universities around the states of California, Washington and Oregon, financial advisors, inspirational speakers, college admission prep teachers, and top school alumnus to give high school students, as well as their parents, a better understanding of the college admissions process, higher education options, and how to make the most out of their college experience. The first 100 attendees will receive special gifts. Raffle prizes include New iPad, Gift Cards from McDonald's, amongst others. McDonald's will be handing out gift cards that can be used at local McDonald's restaurants close by. We welcome every parent to take part in this grand event and hope you can carpool or park further away to ease the parking problem.

1.首先我们要代表所有老师和学校管理团队再次感谢学校PTA核心团队和各班PTA volunteers的奉献和合作精神! 有了他们，我们开学以来的学校安全值勤和礼券销售工作才开展得如此井然有序。他们的这份热情在上周六召开的Annual Class PTA Leads meeting中更是在座无虚席的热烈讨论中再次得到证明。我们希望他们继续保持这份热情，也让我们一起继续热切关注和配合学校PTA本学期组织的各项活动！
First, on behalf of all the teachers and the admin team, we want to thank our PTA core team and all the parent volunteers for their hard work and cooperation. It was through their selfless contribution that our safety patrol and gift certificate sales went so smoothly in the past few weeks. And the Annual Class PTA Leads meeting held on last Saturday was a great success. We are all looking forward to taking part in the great programs our PTA has planned for this school year.

2.作为老师、家长和学校之间的重要桥梁，各班PTA LEAD也请帮助协调解决好最近老师家长反映较多的课堂纪律问题。虽然我们理解有些家长关心自己孩子学习状况的心情，但他们随意出入教室的行为严重影响了上课秩序和学生听课的氛围。在此我们再次强调学校对于家长进入教室的限制规定：五年级以下的班级在经过老师同意后,欢迎一到两名家长在教室内配合老师组织好教学，帮老师维持课堂纪律。其他家长在没有老师许可下请不要在上课期间随意出入教室。

As an important bridge between the parents and teachers, our PTA LEAD in each class should help to solve a classroom discipline problem that some parents and teachers had complained about recently. Even though we understand that some parents want to check out their children in class to make sure they can follow the teachers’ instruction, their entering or exiting the classroom had negatively affected learning process. Thus we want to emphasize our school regulation here that all parents need to get permission from the teacher to enter the classroom after the class starts.

Do you know our Northwest Chinese School will celebrate its 20 year anniversary in two years since it was founded as a non-profit educational organization in 1995? To celebrate its growth and history our school is seeking essay submission from all members of our school to record their experiences or memories of our school. There will be no deadlines or word limits on the essays. And you can send your articles through email to: nwcshistory@nwchinese.org. If your work is accepted you can receive a certificate and a gift from our school.

2. 本周是开学的第五周，仍未交纳学费的家长，请您尽早完成, 否则将每周累计附加五美元的延迟费。另外，本周起退课的家长将不再会有退款。

If you have NOT paid the tuition by now, please do so on this coming Saturday at the Admin Desk during school hours (9:00am to 2:00pm). Starting from the 4th week, an additional $5.00/week late-fee will be charged to your account. Also there will be NO more refund if you want to withdraw from a class this week.

4. 古筝老师Ivy 将在本周六1:30 pm -2:30pm在西雅图分校免费表演古筝演奏，欢迎有兴趣学习古筝的学生和家长欣赏。

 Ivy, the Guzheng teacher will offer a free Guzheng performance at Seattle Branch from 1:30 pm -2:30pm. You are welcome to enjoy it if you have an interest to learn Guzheng in the future.
