尊敬的各位家长、各位老师；

简谈如何得体地维持课堂纪律 ON CLASSROOM DISCIPLINES
IN BRIEF
康德在《论教育》一书中指出，“人只有通过教育才能成为一个人。人是教育的产物。而在人类的种种发明创造中有两项可以看作是最困难的：管理的技巧和教育的技巧。”在康德看来，教育最复杂的任务之一，就是要把服从纪律约束和善于运用自己的自由权力结合起来，孩子（学生）只要不做有害自己和他人的事，就应当让他们有行为的自由，教师不要硬去改变他们的意愿，而是用爱心和耐心来温暖和感化他们的心灵，使他们渐渐地懂得，他们只有为他人提供达到自己目的的可能性，才能达到自己的目的。具体到我校而言，维持课堂纪律对于不少的教师，尤其是小学、初中各年级的老师来说，是一个棘手的问题：一方面，在美国长大的孩子对教师的权威不像在中国长大的孩子那么敬畏；另一方面他们自身都有较强的自立和自信意识。基于此，学校要求我们的每一位教师根据上述原则，结合本班级的实际情况，认真思考我该如何负责而又得体地维持课堂纪律，同时又把教学工作搞好呢？爱心，而不是指责；耐心，而不是粗暴；课上是师生关系，课下是朋友关系；等等，应该是我们的共同价值取向。
2． 2012年度西雅图教育大展本月27日将在我校隆重举行
2012 SEATTLE EDUCATION EXPO TO BE
HELD ON THE 27TH AT NHS
欢迎我校高年级学生及家长参加第四届西雅图教育大会大展。本届大展由《侨报》、南海艺术中心和我校共同主办、麦当劳（MCDONALDS）
提供现场礼品的西雅图教育大展本月二十七日将在主校大礼堂隆重举行，10:00AM-5:OOPM。美国大学理事会教育经理、华盛顿大学、波特兰州立大学招生办顾问、优秀在校大学生在内的嘉宾、专家、学者将与广大师生家长的面对面地探讨大学申请、考试、SAT、中文AP、教育资讯等大家关心的问题。西雅图现代教育学院还现场特设SAT模拟测试。送上门的“良师益友”，希望大家早做安排，踊跃参加。尽管他人的经验不可能囫囵吞枣地照搬，也不可以照猫画虎似地模仿，但足可以借鉴。若是学生因上课不能参加，家长最好能来全程聆听，您一定会有意外的收获。正应验了“它山之石，可以攻玉”这句至理名言。
NWCS parents are cordially
invited to take part in this grand event, for yourselves as well as for your
college-students-to-be kids. SEATTLE EDUCATION EXPOSITION, after months
preparation，will be held at NHS Theater on October 27th,
2012. Distinguished guests and key speakers include National College Board
Director; Admission Director of University of Washington; Admission Director of
University of Portland; Representative from McDonald’s; Representative from
Wells Fargo, and so on so forth. Best in Class Education Center is providing
free SAT practice tests sections for math, verbal, and writing. Each subject
test is twenty-five minutes. Five testing sessions are available starting at
10:15am, 11:15am, 12:15pm, 1:15pm, and 2:15pm. Post-test reviews are scheduled
at 4:00 PM. Best in Class Education will be awarding three $100 tuition credits
to students who score the highest on all three exams. It is impossible for
anyone to mimic somebody else’s successful experience. Yet, it is very possible
for us to learn from them and convert theirs into ours. Once you come, you will
be surprised to find the worthiness of this trip, just like the Chinese proverb
expresses: “There are other hills whose stones are good for working
jade——advice from others may help one overcome his shortcomings.”
3. “文化中国，名家讲坛”——茶文化、玉文化
CHINESE CULTURE FORUM: TEA & JADE
——诠释玉的文化，探索玉与中国历史发展的关系，解析玉的鉴赏和识别，展望玉的收藏及市场发展
——茶马古道命题人亲身讲解中国普尔茶的渊源，茶文化的发展，中国文学艺术中茶的体现，探讨茶文化在海外的传播

4． 全美中文学校协会第九次全国代表大会暨全美华文教育研讨会十二月七日至九日将在辛辛那提召开 The Chinese
School Association in the United States (CSAUS) 9th National Convention and
Chinese Education Conference will be held in Millennium Hotel, Cincinnati, Ohio
from December 7th to December 9th, 2012.
本次大会除改选会长、副会长和理事会以外，将更注重总结和分享经验，希望我校广大教师、家长、教育行政管理人员、董事会成员、PTA领导等积极参与，围绕以下六个专题积极准备文稿：
A. 校长/教务长经验谈
B. 教育资源和现代手段的开发利用
C. 文化教学与语言教学及延伸
D. 华裔子弟中文教学的特点和方法
E. 中文教材的选择和搭配
F. 筹款，校舍和管理
Besides the election of Board
President, Vice-President, and Board members, this conference will focus on
summarizing & sharing experiences, emphasizing
effectiveness & efficiency to meet the high
expectation of all returning from a rewarding journey. For that purpose, NWCS Principal cordially invites all NWCS
teachers & parents, Admin staffs, Board members and PTA leaders to present
by writing in-depth and in details on the following 6 topics in
corresponding 6 sessions during the conference:
· Principal’s/Dean’s forum
· Educational resources & the
developing and utilizing modern facilities
· Language education, culture
education: their correlation and beyond
· Characteristics & methods of
teaching American Born Chinese
· The selections of textbooks and
the supporting materials
· Fundraising, school buildings and
management
5. TUITION
REFUND
This week
will be the last week (5th week) to have 50% tuition refund after which no
refund at all.
6．PAYMENT
DUE FINANCIAL CHARGES
Starting from last week (4th week), an additional charge of
$5.00 per week will be imposed upon those who have not paid the tuition of
their kids. Please make the payment ASAP.
