NWCS 3RD WEEKLY EMAIL BRIEFINGS FALL 2011

Dear All NWCS Fellow Members;

Dear All Parents, Teachers, and Students;

各位家长、各位老师;

亲爱的同学们;

A KIND REMINDER

THIS SATURDAY IS THE LAST DATE FOR FULL TUITION REFUND UPON APPROVAL. CHARGES AND FEES MIGHT BE IMPOSED UPON UNPAID TUITION.

NWCS AUTHORIZES MR JIANG HAILIN TO BE IN CHARGE OF THE WEB UPGRADING AND RELATED ISSUES

It has been decided after discussion that MR. Jiang, Hailin, NWCS PTA CHAIR will be in charge of the WEB related issues including reconstructing and reforming NWCS IT team. The priority of the new team is to make NWCS web more user-friendly and multifunctional, including, but not limited to, online registration, tuition-payment, and book-purchasing all at once.

NWCS EXTENSIVE READINGS TO BE COMPLETELY DISTRIBUTED TO ALL STUDENTS OF SIX GRADERS AND UP

Last Saturday, we have partially distributed NWCS EXTENSIVE READINGS to some of our students and teachers. This week, all students of six graders and up will get the book. When we compiled this book, our targeted readers are mainly NWCS students of six graders and up. Yet, we encourage parents to go over the book, possibly try to spend some time with the kids reading its contents by turn. If so, both parents and students will benefit beyond the compilers’ expectation. Please have a try. Thanks.

RULES & REGULATIONS FOR NEWPORT HIGH SCHOOL (NHS) CLASSROOM MAINTENANCE & MANAGEMENT

ALL TEACHERS AND PARENTS PLEASE REMIND YOUR STUDENTS NOT TO TOUCH ANYTHING ON AND BESIDES NHS TEACHERS’ DESK. STAY AWAY FROM THE DESK IF POSSIBLE.

TUITION WAIVE APPLICATION IN PROCESS

Northwest Chinese School Offers Reduced/Waived Tuition for Chinese Language Classes for Students from Low Income Families. See related documents for details. Restrictions may apply. NWCS BOARD & ADMIN reserve the rights to explain. All applicants have to pay full tuition before being approved. NWCS is to refund you from this special account for bookkeeping and IRS purposes. Thank you for your understanding.

HOW TO SUPPORT FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES BY OUR STUDENTS

弄明白了WHAT, HOW, WHERE & WHY,不必要的误解就消除了。

1)与教育有关的FUNDRAISING应该面向社会,而不是在教育体系内部包括我们学校进行;在校内搞来搞去,无补于教育机构作为一个整体的财务状况,就好比自己的一百块钱,是装在一个兜里,还是分别装在几个衣兜里,结果是一样的;

2)学生的FUNDRAISING是让学生本人初涉社会,锻炼其生存、社交能力的一种方式,由他人掺合其间反倒扭曲了它的本意;

3FUNDRAISING还有一个不可忽视的重要作用,那就是锻炼学生承受被拒绝的心理能力和心理素质以及能够用平和、健康的心态面对拒绝他们的人;

4)和土生土长的美国人比较,我们的个别孩子多多少少有依靠家长、老师帮忙的潜意识;而我们个别的老师、家长也有帮这个不该帮的忙的倾向,在募捐这项活动上尤其是这样;

5)据我个人的观察和了解,白人的孩子在FUNDRAISING等诸如此类的事上,往往自己去做,根本就不喜欢家人插手。能RAISE多少FUND并不是最重要的,重要的是自己在这个过程中得到了历炼;

Since the beginning of the school year, we were happy to find that some of our NWCS students are actively raising funds for their regular Monday through Friday schools. There is no doubt that their activities should be encouraged. However, they should also be guided too to raise funds outside educational institutions including NWCS rather than within. The main purpose of fundraising activities is to offer a real social environment for students to learn how to social and how to survive in the society. If we teachers and parents are involved with the intention to help, the help most probably is in the wrong direction against the primary purpose of Fundraising. Another function of Fundraising that cannot be neglected is to test and train the students’ instant response to refusal and their ability to balance it psychologically. In comparison with other Americans, we as parents tend to more actively offer our kids any help they want while as others leave the kids alone and let them figure out how and where to handle it as far as fundraising is concerned. They understand, and we should too, that the thing that matters most is the process the kid exposed to, the embarrassing situations they encountered, and the life experience they gained, NOT how much fund they raised, though the more the better. Thanks. Criticism is welcome.
